Campaigns for Sustainable Energy

University of Utah Students (ASUU)

University of Utah students started this program by donations made through the ASUU of $1 per student per semester, which gives a total purchase of approximately $66,000/yr. Because this is a large consolidated purchase and building wind turbines derives considerable economy of scale, the cost per unit of new wind power renewable energy credits is $3/megawatt hour, which is much lower than other programs. (The average Utah home uses approximately 10 megawatt hours of electricity per year.)

The University and Sterling Planet have agreed to accept additional individual donations to the fund, which makes this an extraordinarily cost effective mechanism for individuals to fund new wind power. Although U of U students already contribute to this fund via the ASUU, some students might wish to make additional donations to further increase the University's wind power purchase. This campaign is also appropriate for family members or friends of students interested in supporting renewable energy, or for anyone else wanting to show appreciation for the ASUU's leadership and join the effort.
